Artist & Curator Submissions
At the McIntosh, exhibitions are in development three years in advance. This inludes ongoing research on regional, provincial, and national artists and exhibitions on an ongoing basis.
The gallery does not accept unsolicited exhibition proposals from curators or artists. We do, however, accept informational update packages and portfolios of recent or upcoming activity from artists, curators, collectives and groups as part of our ongoing research. Any updates will be filed and referenced by curatorial staff with great interest as we appreciate being made aware of all contemporary practices. Due to the volume of materials that we receive, we may not be able to respond to all update packages that are submitted, or responses may be significantly delayed.
Updates should include
- Current CV and statement describing your practice (300 words max)
- Samples of work must be labelled with your name, title of the work, date(s) of production, medium and dimensions
- For images, include up to 15 JPGs or a link to view on an external site
- For video and/or audio, provide links for viewing up to 10 minutes of material such as artist website, Vimeo, or YouTube and include passwords if required
- Feel free to include other related materials such as recent publications or reviews
Ontario Arts Council Exhibition Assistance Program
McIntosh Gallery is a third-party recommender organization that participates annually in the Ontario Arts Council: Exhibition Assistance Program (Zone 1). The program provides grants to assist visual artists working in traditional and new media with the costs directly related to presenting their work in a confirmed, upcoming, public exhibition. Through these grants, McIntosh Gallery aims to cultivate and support practicing artists, including emerging artists, who reside in Zone 1 (as described by the OAC). We evaluate applications according to artistic merit, recent exhibition history, and potential benefit of the exhibition to the artist’s career. Applications for grants in the amount of $500-$2000 must be made through the Ontario Arts Council portal. If applicants do not have a profile with the OAC, they will need to create one in order to apply.

- Artistic merit
- Potential impact of the exhibition on the artist's career or on the development of the artist's practice
- Artists from underrepresented groups or OAC priority groups
- We prioritize exhibitions that are non-commercial in nature, such as exhibitions at public art galleries and artist-run centres
